BOURTREEHILL and Broomlands Age Concern are looking for a handyman to help some of their most vulnerable members.

The group are asking for volunteer or retired tradesmen and women to come forward and assist those in need of help.

Based at Lower Vennel, the age concern give support to some of the most vulnerable in the community.

But they are now looking for people to get in touch about helping members with some of the most basic repairs to their homes.

Betty Weir, chair of the Bourtreehill & Broomlands Age Concern, said: “We’re looking for joiners or anyone handy to help out with repairs, some of it is just the small things.

“We’re finding a lot of our members are struggling to get these things done, it takes a lot of time for some of them.

“So we’d quite like it if volunteers or retired people would like to help us out and offer their services.

“Some of the elderly members have no family and no-one to turn to when they need a small job done in the house or the garden.”

Betty added: “It benefits both any business and the people in the community, they’ll be doing something good and it gets their name out there.

“It’s a big job for some people, they feel like they can’t get anything done.

“Anyone who comes forward would be fully vetted and we’d need a full disclosure.

“We’re looking to get some more funding and we could easily set up a workshop.”

Vacancies are also open at the age concern lunch clubs

These run from 12noon between Monday and Friday.
