AN Irvine man who sat on top of and repeatedly punched his partner is awaiting sentencing.

Aaron Paton, of Mull Court, admitted attacking the woman in Moorfoot Way on April 30.

A court heard how Paton and the woman had been in for a relationship for seven months prior to the incident.

They were living separately but Paton, 26, would occasionally stay overnight.

On the night in question, the pair had been out drinking and went back to the property before a fight broke out.

Paton assaulted the woman and witnesses saw Paton and the woman on the floor.

But the door was locked and the woman couldn’t get back in however the complainer noticed her and told the witness the back door was open.

The woman’s bottom lip was cut and there was blood at the back of her head. Police also  found blood on the floor and damage to tables and chairs.

Paton and the woman were upstairs in a bedroom talking and he said: “I didn’t do anything.”

The complainer had a bloodied lip as well as swelling and bruising to her left eye but refused treatment.

In the main, he gave a no comment interview but when asked about cuts and grazes to his knuckles he denied any knowledge.

When asked about the scratches on his neck and bruising to his eye, he said: “I don’t know what my face looks like.”

Paton pleaded guilty to the offences at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

Fraser Alexander, defending, said Paton does not normally drink and his memory from the night was “patchy to say the least”.

Mr Alexander said his client regrets his injuring the woman and hopes to rekindle their relationship.

Presiding Sheriff Robert Vaughan adjourned Paton’s case until July for social work reports to be completed.
