AN Irvine couple recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding with a special party.
Hugh and Mary Gillespie joined friends and family to celebrate 60 years of wedded bliss with a party in the Hallmark Hotel.
But before that the Dick Terrace couple received a telegram from The Queen which was presented to them by Lord Lieutenant Erica Lockett and Provost Joan Sturgeon.
Hugh, 84, and Mary, 82, have lived at their current home since August 1967 and are parents of six children as well as having 20 grandchildren.
And a 13th great-grandchild is due in August!
The pair met in 1952 at Butlins and then again at the Low Green in Irvine, living at Waterside Street where they first married.
Hugh was a director and co-owner of the family haulage company H&D Gillespie Ltd founded by his father and uncle while Mary worked at ICI/Ardeer.
And to celebrate their special anniversary, Hugh and Mary joined 100 of their family and friends to enjoy food, drink and an Elvis tribute act.
Congratulations to Hugh and Mary from all at the Irvine Times.
