TWO Greenwood Academy pupils are frying high – after their tasty burger won a North Ayrshire schools’ competition.

Megan Armstrong and Hayley Collins’ creation tickled the taste buds of the judges thanks to its traditional Scottish ingredients and rich flavour.

And by winning the competition, the winners will now be able to show off their Clapshot burger to a far wider audience when it goes on sale at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies’ Scottish Open.

North Ayrshire Council is again sponsoring the event at Dundonald Links and the burger competition was designed to give young people a chance to play a part in the three-day event.

As well as world-class golf, the council and partners are putting on activities for young people to make the event a real family affair.

The burger will be sold in the tented village, where there will be a huge array of produce available courtesy of partners from Taste Ayrshire.

Councillor Willie Gibson, Leader of North Ayrshire Council, said: “Well done to both of the girls who have not only managed to create something really tasty but something that represents a taste of Scotland.

“The Ladies Scottish Open is a fantastic event. Not only for golf and sports fans but for families and communities. It really has something for everyone and we’re looking forward to another memorable three days later in July.

“Last year was a huge success and attracted record crowds.

“We’re confident that this year will be equally as good.”

The event takes place at Dundonald Links from July 22-24 and admission is free.
