A MAN who launched a torrent of abuse at an Irvine supermarket worker has been given a chance to behave himself.

Derrick Wallace, of Scott Road, terrified the woman behind the kiosk at Sainsbury’s on September 7 last year.

The 45-year-old brought his shopping to the kiosk at around 9pm on the night in question, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard.

All was normal but the woman behind the till noticed Wallace’s facial expression seemed to change.

He then began to shout at the woman “out of the blue” and repeatedly called her a “f****** w****” before leaning over the counter and pointing angrily at her.

This caused her to take a step back and on seeing this, Wallace stated to the woman that he wasn’t going to hit her but continued to call her a “f****** w****”.

Wallace then put his card in the chip and pin to pay for his items before a male member of staff to ask the woman if she was alright.
And it was here that Wallace turned his attention to her colleague and started shouting at him.

Wallace began to leave the store but did not intend on exiting quietly.
He continued to shout and call the woman a “w****” but police eventually caught up with him at his home address.

Replying to caution and charge, Wallace said: “I didn’t call her a f****** w****”.

Wallace did not appear at court but pleaded guilty by letter.
Presiding Sheriff Michael Anderson deferred sentence on Wallace until November for him to be of good behaviour.
