IRVINE residents are being given the chance to battle it out for the prestigious title of the town’s strongest team.
The Low Green will this year host a tug of war competition following the Marymass fourth port parade on Saturday, August 13.
Irvine Carters Society are putting a different spin on this year’s festivities and are opening the contest to people of all ages and backgrounds.
The teams will consist of five people and the winners on August 13 will compete in the grand final at the Moor on Marymass Saturday (August 20).
Councillor Ian Clarkson, member of the Carter’s Committee, which helps to organise Marymass, said: “This is an opportunity to be part of Marymass.
“We already have a great deal of interest and it will certainly add to the fun of Marymass.
“It is a challenge to services, schools, churches, pubs, etc and even families, male or female, with the two winning teams taking centre stage out at the Moor on Marymass Saturday.”
It costs £10 per team to enter and dress code is optional.
The first competition after the fourth port parade gets underway at 2pm with the final on Marymass Saturday at 3pm.
