SOME of Scotland’s most respected authors are heading to Irvine later this year.

Tidelines Book Festival will return between September 23-25 and boasts one of the best line-ups yet.

The three-day events are part of North Ayrshire’s only independent book festival which has increased in size every year since its launch in 2013.

And there’s bound to be something for everyone at this year’s festival.

Friday will see record-breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont arrive at the Magnum Leisure Centre to talk about his book Africa Solo while satirist Paul Kavanagh and award-winning writer Alistair Moffat will be appearing at Puffers Cafe and the Harbour Arts Centre respectively.

Leading Scottish crime novelist Chris Brookmyre will be talking about his new psychological thriller Black Widow at the HAC.

The same venue has a full-day of author talks from acclaimed writers David Ross, Theresa Talbot, Douglas Skelton and Michael J Malone.

stone’s throw away at the Scottish Maritime Museum, the life of the late Sam Galbraith - the museum’s former chairman - will be honoured with a special presentation with all proceeds going to charity.

Rounding off Tidelines on Sunday, September 25 will be BBC broadcaster and rugby legend John Beattie who will be entertaining punters at the HAC.
Crime writer Denise Mina will appear later in the day.

This will be followed by a production by Horsehead Theatre titled ‘A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil’.

All that and so much more is planned across the three days.
