THE official programme for Marymass 2016 has been revealed with just over a week to go until the start of the festival.

Thursday, August 11 will see the official launch of Marymass with the lighting of the beacon at Bridgegate.

As ever, this will start at The Carter’s Horse statue at the Harbourside and from there members of Irvine Running Club will carry the torch and visit each of the Four Ports.

Another beacon will then be lit at the Trinity steps followed by the formal announcing of the Captain of Irvine Carters Society and the sashing of Marymass Queen elect Abbi McLeish and her Marys Chloe Watson, Sophie Kirkwood, Alex Bannon and Danni Murphy.

Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band will be on hand to perform at the opening ceremony and mark the official beginning of Marymass.

But there’s plenty of other events to keep everyone entertained in the run-up to Marymass Saturday.

The fun includes the Harbourside’s Fourth Port Parade, Carters Gala Day at the Low Green, a torchlit parade from High Street to the Moor followed by a dazzling fireworks display.

A whole host of other events are planned in the lead-up to Marymass Saturday on August 20.
