THIS Sunday, you may well ask yourself why so many people are walking around Irvine looking like a rainbow.

It’s not because the sky is falling down, but it does mean the return of the Colour Dash, in aid of Ayrshire Hospice.

Following on from the success of last year’s event, this time round, runners will take part at Irvine Beach Park, starting at 11am.

A ‘Colour Dash’, involves participants taking part in a run with a difference.

After being given a t-shirt and a pair of sunglasses, runners will be blasted with an aerosol-type style of fun paint, leaving them to cross the finish line covered in all different colours!

Tracey Corrigan, one of the organisers, highlighted the significance of the event. She explained: “We’ve had a really great response. It’s a great fun, family event and anyone can come along and take part.

“Last year, around 91 per cent of the people involved were new to the hospice, so it is really all about getting the message across and to raise awareness.”

Participants are encouraged to donate to the cause if they can, with any support given warmly welcomed. Tracey said: “The amount of money that it takes in order to run the Hospice is one that surprises a lot of people.

“People can donate money after the event and if people want to find out more about the Hospice too then that is something we are certainly happy to speak to people about”.

As well as the 5k race, there will also be a range of entertainment on offer as well for anyone coming along, including West FM’s Callum Gallagher, The Goodfellows and Rogues Gallery - then sit back and enjoy a burger!

Tracey concluded: “There’s plenty to keep you entertained. We’re hoping to attract plenty of younger people and want to get everyone involved”.
