AN Irvine cop has received a prestigious policing award after attending a training course.

PC Scott Murray, Safer Communities Officer for North Ayrshire, was honoured with the David Gray Memorial Trophy whilst attending the Community Safety and Crime Reduction diploma course at Police Scotland College.

The award is given to the student who demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and commitment during the course. 

PC Murray, who is based at Irvine Police Office, is the 50th recipient of the award.

The course includes various inputs on home security and crime prevention and officers also receive various external inputs on topics such as card fraud, metal theft and rural crime.

Officers are also required to submit a problem solving project related to a specific issue within their local area and demonstrate how they intend to resolve it. 

Chief Inspector Brian Shaw, Area Commander in North Ayrshire, said: “Ayrshire Division is proud that Scott has been recognised for his work and commitment during this course at Tulliallan - crime prevention is an important part of policing and this course provides participants with the latest information and skills in this field. 

“In the coming weeks and months Scott will put into practice what he has learned and work with colleagues to keep people safe in Ayrshire.

PC Murray said: “I am very pleased to have been awarded the David Gray Memorial Trophy.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the wide range of inputs and topics covered throughout the course in relation to community safety and crime reduction. 

“The training delivered throughout the course was

excellent and I would like to thank the various speakers who

delivered inputs during the course.”
