OVER £2,000 has been raised to help send an Irvine boy to America for a life-changing operation.

Five-year-old Jackson Waddell, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and his family have been inundated with support as they continue to raise money to give him an operation that could free him from using his frame.

And the Old Caley Road family were given even more of a boost after completing the family mile of the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow at the weekend.

Mum Jacqueline originally set a £1,000 target as part of a first-stage fundraiser.

But that figure is rapidly increasing and the fundraising events will continue throughout the rest of the year.

Jackson’s fellow pupils at Woodlands Primary School will be hosting a dress-down day to raise funds while Dundonald-based gym will be taking part in a 2,000 press-up challenge.

Well-known charity fundraiser Scott Brown has also been inspired by Jackson and will this year dedicate his annual 5k and 10k Boxing Day Boomerang to raise money for the youngster.

A big well done to Jackson and the rest of ‘Team Jacko’ on the fundraising so far!
