A WOMAN and a boy had a lucky escape following a fire at a property in Kilwinning last week.
Fire crews from Kilwinning attended a report of a living room on fire in Cambusdoon Place in the early hours of Thursday, October 6.
The cause of the fire was a lamp in the room which had burned itself out before the arrival of the fire service.
Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “Despite the fact that the fire had burned itself out, an adult female and a male child within the house were still subjected to slight smoke inhalation at the scene.
“If the fire had spread we could have been looking at a very different and more serious outcome.”
He added: “To provide early warning of fire in your home I would urge householders to ensure they have working smoke detection.
“A free home fire safety visit can be arranged via ourselves where a fire escape plan and free smoke detection will be provided and fitted if required.
“To arrange a visit at a time suitable to you contact us by sending a texting FIRE to 80800, by logging on to www.firescotland.gov.uk or by Freephone to 0800 0731 999.”
