SIX people - including an Irvine couple - have been charged with singing sectarian songs on a train.

Stephen and Louise Mary Lindsay, of East Bowhouse Head, are accused of behaving abusively on a train between Glasgow Central Station and Irvine on April 8.

One of the six allegedly attacked a man during the incident.

Louise Mary Lindsay, 35, denies singing sectarian songs while Stephen Lindsay, 45, is also accused of singing similar songs as well as pushing a man on the body and using derogatory and threatening language.

The other four accused, all of Girvan, are charged with threatening or abusive behaviour during the same journey.

George Kiltie is accused of repeatedly punching the same man on the head.

The 49-year-old and Elaine Kiltie, 35, same address, both deny singing sectarian songs.

Mandy Gibson, 32, and Colin Bell, 46, also of Girvan, pleaded guilty to singing sectarian songs during the journey.

All six were absent from Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week to face the charges.

They are scheduled to appear in the dock in February.
