BOSSES at an Irvine surgery have come under fire after pensioners were left queuing outside for their flu jab.

Dozens of residents, many of them elderly, were left waiting outside the Townhead Surgery on Saturday afternoon as

staff struggled to manage the situation.

The mismanagement has this week been blasted week as “totally unacceptable” by a Bourtreehill woman.

Angela Stephen’s father William, 78, was one of those left waiting for over an hour.

And Angela, 43, insists the farcical scenes at Townhead were a stark contrast to the smooth service delivered the previous year.

Speaking to the Times, Angela said: “My dad got an appointment for between 2.30pm and 3.15pm on Saturday which is normally what they give you anyway.

“But when we were driving up and saw the queue we thought it was actually shut but it wasn’t, they were letting people in a few at a time.

“I managed to get parked and then we waited and waited. Gradually the queue was going down but he was absolutely frozen.

“He was feeling the cold, he doesn’t keep well at times and I’m sure a lot of people would have been the same.”

She added: “Something must have gone seriously wrong. Is it really acceptable in 2016 to have people waiting outside like that?

“It was quite tough for him to be waiting well over an hour.”

“Last year there were no problems whatsoever.

“What has happened from last year to this year for people to be standing outside with the doors closed? It’s totally unacceptable.”

Townhead Surgery’s Practice Manager was unavailable for comment when approached by the Times.
