POLICE Scotland have already tested hundreds of motorists as part of its festive drink drive campaign and warn any over the limit drivers that it is very likely they will be caught.

Police Scotland launched its annual festive drink drive campaign on December 2, and it will continue to run until January 2, 2017.

By Monday, December 5, officers had tested more than 300 drivers, carrying out checks at locations throughout Ayrshire, including Irvine.

Inspector Dean Pennington, head of the Roads Policing Unit at Irvine said; “If people decide to take a chance on drinking and driving, there is a real likelihood that they will be caught.

“By drinking and driving you risk your life, your passengers’ and others using the road.

“Drivers convicted of drink driving face the prospect of a mandatory disqualification from driving, along with a fine or prison sentence.”

In the first weekend, officers say they arrested a woman who allegedly failed to stop after a road crash and allegedly more than five times the legal limit. Officers also arrested a man at 8.20am on Sunday, December 4, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
