RUNNERS across Ayrshire are gearing up for an annual Boxing Day race - to help send an Irvine boy for a life-changing operation.

This year's Boxing Day Boomerang at Dundonald Castle will be in aid of five-year-old Jackson Waddell who suffers from cerebral palsy.

The Times previously told how Jackson's family are aiming to raise enough money to send him to America for an operation that could help him walk.

Jackson currently walk with a frame but once he eventually grows out of it, his only option will be to use a power chair.

And race organiser Scott Brown is urging runners of all abilities to take part and help potentially change Jackson's life.

Both a 5km and 10km race will be competed on the day with a £75 cash prize up for grabs for the male and female winners of the 10km race sponsored by Hands Gas Irvine.

A raffle will also be held on the day with some fantastic prizes on offer.

Entry fee will be £7 which includes a medal and bottle of water with the race due to begin at 10am.
