Healthcare company GSK has re-opened applications for its 2017 apprenticeship programme.

The company will be recruiting approximately 90 apprentices, of which five will work at GSK’s manufacturing site in Irvine.

The company says applications are now closed for engineering, but there is still an opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship in Business and Supply Chain and Laboratory IT Systems at GSK Irvine.

As well as studying towards a nationally recognised qualification, apprentices will gain valuable on-thejob experience alongside some of the industry’s leading talent.

Eleanor Trainer, a Third Year business and supply chain apprentice in Irvine said: “My apprenticeship gives me the opportunity to earn while I learn, while developing both academically and in experience.

“As part of my apprenticeship, I’ve worked in a number of areas from the warehouse to scheduling which has given me real hands-on experience in logistics.”

The Irvine site is recruiting the company’s first Laboratory IT Systems Apprentice, a three-year apprenticeship with industry recognised qualifications including a HND in Technical Support and an SVQ Level 3 in Information Technology & Telecommunications.

The successful candidate will also gain experience in areas such as hardware and software installation/ configuration, computer systems validation, user acceptance testing, the use and control of chromatography data systems as well as pharmaceutical documentation standards.

Mike O’Sullivank, site director for Irvine said: “Apprentices are our site’s future talent and a crucial part of our business.

“By joining the team, you will not only work alongside some of the world’s leading professionals but will also help ensure that patients and consumers all over the world continue to have access to our products.”

“GSK offers both Higher and Advanced apprenticeship opportunities that typically range from two to four years in duration, depending on the discipline. Apprentices also gain valuable on-the-job experience alongside the industry’s leading talent and receive a competitive base salary with access to the company’s benefit scheme.

“We look forward to welcoming the next generation of apprentices.”

Around 40 per cent of GSK apprentices are female, which is significantly higher than the industry average."

Applications for apprentice opportunities are scheduled to close on February 19, 2017.
