A body has been found in the River Irvine, with police believing it to be missing man Alan Galbraith.

Police were called to a report of a man's body found in the river close to Dreghorn Road on Saturday, March 11.

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 1420 hours on Saturday 11 March 2017, police were called to a report of a man's body found in the River Irvine, near Dreghorn Road, Irvine.

"Although formal identification has still to take place, it is believed to be 58-year-old Alan Galbraith who has been missing from Kilmarnock since Sunday 5 February 2017.

"His family has been informed.

"A post mortem will take place to establish the exact cause of death, however the death is not being treated as suspicious."

"A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
