Kilwinning councillor Robert Steel has announced that he will not be standing for re-election at the Local Council Election in May.

Councillor Steel wished to thank the community for their support during his term over the last five years.

He said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me in 2012 and those who have continued to support and assist me during my term as councillor which I have found to be very rewarding.

“I believe that a local councillor should always look to improve the environment and wellbeing of all of the people whom they represent, primarily in their Ward, and also within North Ayrshire.

“As an Independent councillor, I have always put my constituents’ issues as my first priority. Living in the town has meant daily contact with my constituents and has afforded them the opportunity to give me the benefit of their advice and opinions.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve my community for the last five years. I have enjoyed it immensely but now look forward to becoming involved in other projects.

“I wish Kilwinning Ward and North Ayrshire continued success in the future.”
