Four new Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) have been elected to represent North Ayrshire.

A total of 10 candidates, all aged between 12 and 25, put forward their manifestos to prospective voters outlining why they deserve to take on the important role.

And since March 7-13, young people from across North Ayrshire have been voting for the candidates they want to represent them at the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Chloe Robertson of Irvine and Aaran McDonald of Kilwinning were elected to represent the views of young people in Cunninghame South.

The result also saw Cadely Paton of Dalry and Eilidh Macpherson of Arran being elected to be the voice of their peers in Cunninghame North.

In their roles as MSYPs, Aaran, Chloe, Cadely and Eilidh will take part in local youth forums, consult with their peers on a range of issues, help out with training sessions and lobby senior politicians on things that matter the most to you people in their constituencies.

They will officially take on the role of MSYP in June this year, for a two-year period.

The newest batch of young politicians was announced by North Ayrshire’s Returning Officer, Elma Murray, on Friday (17 March).

Speaking about the elections, Elma Murray, said: “It is encouraging to see how passionate and driven our young people are to make a difference in our communities.

“The Scottish Youth Parliament plays an important role in North Ayrshire. It provides us with a great opportunity to engage with and listen to young people – something that we value hugely here at the Council.”
