The doors to the Kilwinning Whippet Racing Club officially opened last weekend.

On Sunday, April 2, they marked the start of the 2017 season with plenty of racing to be had.

Thankfully the weather was kind on the day.

There was a time trial open held for the non ped whippets, the dogs were all handicapped by their time difference and race manager Kenny Salmon Jr made up the race card with “Demo” aka Millie winning the C final, “Darlo Fury” aka Dexter winning the B final and “Finley’s Sulky Bhoy” aka Skipper winning the A final.

The pedigree racers ran for their annual Piersland Cup, they were weighed in and pedigree race manager Derek Thomson got their races set up.

There were some fantastic and close races to be had over the day but our overall winner and claiming the Piersland Cup was DJ “Blue He’s Mia’s Boy” owned by club members Mandy and Derek Thomson.

The club had a number of lurchers attend to compete in their own over and under 23” racing.

There were some close races but coming on top of the over 23” group class was Oscar owned by club member Dean Mitchell. The under 23” group class winner was Milly owned by Geoff and Hazel Fletcher up visiting from Maltby Whippet Racing Club in England.

Regular racing will continue every Sunday from 11am at the Dirrans Park, weather permitting.

All breeds of dogs are welcome to attend.
