A 13-year-old boy has been reported after an alleged assault at the Rivergate in Irvine

His victim, a 14-year-old boy was attacked in the shopping hotspot at around 9pm on April 7 2017 but no serious injuries occurred.

The 13-year-old has now been reported to the procurator fiscal for his alleged involvement in the crime.

Sergeant Jason Peter, of the Irvine Locality Policing Team, said:"Following recent reports of disorder in the town centre area officers worked alongside local businesses and security teams to review CCTV footage and identify those involved.

"The consequences of any act of violence could be very serious but thankfully no injuries were sustained by the victim in this incident. We would like to thank members of the public who assisted officers with their enquiries.

"We have recently provided an update on our efforts to tackle the supply of alcohol to underage youths and have issued an appeal to parents and carers to consider where their children are going and what they get up to when out and about.

"We have referred a number of young people to our partners in the local Health and Social Care Partnership and will work together to safeguard any young people who may be involved in criminality or misusing alcohol."
