A derelict former B&B which blazed for hours last week has now been demolished.

The demolishion was carried out on Thursday, April 27 after the owner obtained the necessary permissions.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said their Building Standards Team attended the property.

He said: “We arranged for the property and the site to be secured against entry once firefighting operations had ended.

"The owner was requested to remove loose material from the roof and wall heads and this was carried out on Wednesday morning.

“The owner is in the process of obtaining the necessary permissions and carrying out preparatory work to demolish the building.

"Given the condition of the building the Council are assisting to have this carried out as soon as possible."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called at 3.34pm on Tuesday, April 18 to reports of a fire in the derelict former B&B.

Three fire appliances were mobilised to the incident on Bank Street and crews tackled the blaze with powerful water jets.

Fire crews eventually left the scene at 10.10pm and the incident was passed to Police Scotland.

Irvine Police are now investigating the blaze after fire crews tackled the blaze for several hours.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene after reports of a fire at a derelict property on Bank Street.

“We assisted The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and there are now ongoing enquiries into matter.

“We would encourage anyone with any information to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
