Drugs with an estimated street value in excess of £5,000 have been seized by police in North Ayrshire.

At about 4pm on Wednesday, May 31 Locality Policing Team officers on patrol in Gigha Place, Irvine traced and arrested a man wanted on Court issued warrants.

Following police enquiries and the recovery of alleged class A and C drugs, believed to be heroin and diazepam, the 35-year-old Irvine man was later arrested for allegedly being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

He was held in police custody to appear at Court and a full report sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson for the Irvine Locality Policing Team said: "Drugs bring misery to communities and local people have highlighted drug misuse and drug dealing as a top priority for policing in Irvine.

"This incident sees a significant quantity of drugs being taken off the streets - we would encourage local people to continue working with us, to pass on any information regarding crime in the area and together we can make the town a safer place to live, work and visit."

Anyone with concerns about crime in their community is encouraged to contact their local policing team via the national non emergency number 101 (always dial 999 in an emergency).
