Payton McGrath, who attends Marymass every year with her family, told the Irvine Times: "I feel really honoured."

"I’m really really excited for August when my duties will begin, attending all the Marymass events as Queen and I'm looking forward to the fireworks.

"Yeah me and all my family attend. They’re really really proud of me and really happy for me."

Carters captain Danny Kerr said: "The selection was of high calibre, there was 21 girls at Irvine Royal for the position of queen.

"It goes on rotation, Irvine Royal for the queen, next year Greenwood for the queen, the following year St Matthew’s for the queen. The Queen from one school and the two Marys from the other schools."
