An Irvine man was was delighted when his his dog won the annual Summer Classic Open for Pedigree Whippet Racing dogs was held at Woodroad Park in Cumnock on Sunday, June 4.

Whippet racing enthusiasts from all over Britain attended this magnificent event, and racers came from all airts and pairts of Scotland including the big boys from down south with their impressive National Champion dogs.

Also there on the day was Jimmy Burns from Irvine who is the Chairman of the Ayrshire club EAPWRC, and his much fancied dog Billy, racing name Saulstir Mill named after his grandson Saul Stirling from Castlepark.

Jimmy managed to get to the four dog final, where he came up against the favourite Masters Edition a newly crowned NPWRA Racing Champion, and unbeaten this year so far.

Off they went and Billy managed to cross the line first, a fantastic result for the Irvine man, and not only that he set the fastest time of the day with a 9.62 over 165 yards, this really is a very impressive thing to do in the world of Pedigree Whippet Racing.

The club meets every Wednesday night at Cumnock and anyone with a young Pedigree Whippet who feel they might want to take up the immensely popular sport are welcome to along and watch and find out about the ins and outs of racing.
