An Irvine couple have been celebrating enjoying 70 happy years together.
Hugh and Margaret Thompson, both 89, got married at Ministers House in Stevenston on June 10 back in 1947, before enjoying tea and cakes at the grooms mother’s house and jumping on a bus to their honeymoon in Ayr.
They first met when they were 18 at a dance in Stevenston.
Margaret was dating someone else but agreed to go on a date with Hugh to the cinema in Ardrossan.
She burnt his suit with a cigarette, but that didn’t stub out the fires of their love.
They now live in Irvine, with family living in the area, as well as in South Africa where they lived, and in America including great grandchildren.
They celebrated the occasion by going to McChristies Restaurant in Kilmarnock last week on Friday, June 9 with family and enjoyed a special picture cake.
On top of that they thoroughly enjoyed a surprise limousine ride on the way home.
