The fantastic staff at the Dirrans Centre help rebuild lives. And they have been recognised for the brilliant service they provide after landing a top award.

The team at the Kilwinning rehabilitation unit are now the proud owners of Investors in People Platinum Accreditation.

The team picked up the award for the topclass way they look after service users, for always putting them first and for constantly looking at ways to make the experience for them better.

The Dirrans Centre was first opened in 1996 as a head-injury unit in a local sports pavilion and provided specific services to people who had sustained a brain injury.

By 2012 the service had grown and North Ayrshire Council embarked on an ambitious project to provide a purpose designed, new build facility that would meet the future development needs of the service and also serve the local community.

The new building, situated next to their first home, has a range of features including a training kitchen, gym, lounge/dining room, multi-purpose rooms for a wide range of activities, an IT room with Smart Board and computer access and a quiet room.

The start-of-the-art premises has allowed the team to expand its services to include reablement services to adults with physical disability, brain injury, neurological and longterm conditions.

Councillor Robert Foster, Cabinet Member for the Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “The Dirrans has been a fantastic facility for over two decades now. What strikes me is that staff are incredibly passionate about what they do and are continually looking at ways they can improve and, ultimately, provide even better support for their service users.

“They are a team that genuinely make a difference and help people cope with life-changing injuries and conditions. A huge well done to everyone involved.”
