A MOTHER has heaped praise on two teenage boys who helped rescue her young son who was trapped in mud.

Kelly-Anne Lynn had given her two sons John, 6, and Mark, 5, instructions not to venture too far from home when they were out playing on Friday afternoon.

Being adventurous children, the pair went off with another friend and ended up in a bit of trouble near the Annick River.

Kelly-Anne said: “We live on Gigha Terrace and they were told not to go too far from the street.

“They were playing away and headed down to a small bridge, between Greenwood Academy and Greenwood Conference Centre.

“My John was just being a curious kid, looking at the water and wanted to get closer.

“John got stuck in the mud near the river, and as the water started to rise around him he started to panic.

“Mark tried to help him but Teens save young boy stuck in Annick mud there was nothing he could do, John is quite heavy-set.

“There was an older lady, who I think is called May, was walking her dog and tried throwing her dog lead at John to pull him out, but she didn’t have the strength.”

May managed to get the attention of two teenagers who came to John and Mark’s rescue.

Kelly-Anne said: “The two boys, who I know now are Joe Waddell and Robbie Szulc, managed to help pull John out the mud and, in my opinion saved his life.

“Both of them have been grounded and John is still a bit shook up by the whole incident.

“I don’t think he’ll ever go near that area alone again.

“I’m honestly so grateful to Joe and Robbie.

“Without them being there at the right time, it could have been a very different story for my sons.”
