An Irvine woman has been fined £900 after admitting to fraudulently claiming over £4,000 in benefits.

Gemma Bruce, 35, pled guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week to one charge.

Her plea of not guilty to a second charge was accepted by the prosecutor.

Between June 9, 2014 and September 27, 2016 at Duncan Drive, at her current address in Glenbervie Wynd, and elsewhere, Bruce claimed Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit claiming to be a single parent despite living with and maintaining a common household with a partner who was in paid employment.

Bruce thereby obtained Tax Credits of £4,031.82 that she was not entitled to.

Bruce was fined £900, to be paid at £50 a week.
