A 27-year-old woman has been arrested following an alleged altercation in Irvine early Friday morning.
A 35-year-old-man was taken to Crosshouse with a serious head injury, but has since moved to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where staff describe his condition as serious.
Police confirmed the incident after reports of police and forensic teams attending a property in Broomsland Gate.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At around 0005 hours on Friday, August 4, a 35-year-old man sustained a serious head injury following an altercation within a close in Broomlands Gate, Irvine.
"He was initially taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital but has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where staff describe his condition as serious.
"A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the incident."
