Police today issued a further appeal to the public for assistance in tracing a man who has been missing from Irvine since Sunday, 2 July.

Gordon Wilson (47) from Irvine, had been receiving treatment in Woodland View Hospital, Kilwinning Road, Irvine, and told staff that he was going out for a walk around 0900 hours on the Sunday morning but didn’t come back.

As a result of extensive enquiries to find him, officers traced him to Glasgow City Centre where he was seen on CCTV in Midland Street, Glasgow, on Monday 3 July, in a café that caters for homeless people. However, since then, there have been no further sightings.

Gordon is described as 5ft 8 in height, of slim build, with thinning shoulder length greying hair. When last seen, he was wearing blue jeans and a blue jumper with a hood. He was also wearing grey trainers with white soles. He requires to take medication but does not have any with him.

Inspector Christine Boyd, Irvine Police Office, said:

“Although confirmed seen in Glasgow recently, we know that Gordon travels the country extensively, usually hitch hiking rather than using public transport, therefore we would appeal to motorists who may have been approached by someone fitting his description to contact us.

“He does live quite a nomadic lifestyle and habitually sleeps rough, bunking down in fields and other open spaces for the night.

“Therefore, we would again ask people, especially those who live more in the countryside or remotely, to check their sheds, garages or outhouses, to see if there have been signs of someone staying there who shouldn’t be.

“We would also ask walkers/hitchhikers/dog walkers who use out of the way fields to keep an eye out for Gordon or any areas of land where it looks like people are sleeping rough.

“We have been in contact with homeless charities throughout the country, including Ayrshire and Glasgow and the Highlands where it’s possible that Gordon was heading to, but so far no one has seen him.

“Finally, we would appeal to Gordon himself to get in touch. Whilst he may not want people to know where he is, we have to make sure he is safe and well.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Irvine via 101 quoting reference 1847 of Sunday 2 July 2017.
