An official find Madeleine McCann Facebook page is urging people to starve online trolls of attention.

The webmaster of the page hit out at those who continually criticise the McCann's for leaving their children alone in the holiday apartment where Maddie disappeared from in 2007.

Glasgow Times:

New page rules were added to the site with a plea to supporters of the campaign to find the youngster.

It said: "PLEASE do not feed trolls. Trolls feed on havoc and causing chaos.

"If we do not feed them, they will starve for attention and hopefully spread their hate someplace else."

Glasgow Times:

The post added: "Please don’t post your opinion on leaving children alone.

"Doing so will result in you being banned. No questions asked.”

The official Facebook page is not run by the McCann family but it has the support of Kate and Gerry.

Meanwhile, detectives searching for Madeleine McCann are to ask for more funds to extend their multi-million pound search, it has been reported.

Police hunting for the toddler have spent more than £11 million on a six-year investigation after she vanished during a family holiday in Praia da Luz in Portugal in May 2007.

The three-year-old disappeared from the family's holiday apartment and has not been seen since.

Kate and her husband Gerry McCann, who is originally from Glasgow, have always vowed to never give up hope of finding their daughter.
