NORTH Ayrshire is set to be battered by wind and rain this afternoon as ex-hurricane Ophelia travels north-east towards Scotland.

The Met Office have issued a weather warning valid from 12pm but rain has already started to fall in the local area with driving conditions and road surfaces affected.

The yellow warning for wind includes says that public transport may be affected with power cuts possible and there is also potential for mobile phone services to be affected.

The warning also says that Coastal routes, such as North Ayrshire, may be affected by large waves and spray from the sea.
