A man has admitted to a sexual assault charge after being alone with a bar worker at last orders.

Ryan Arkison, 21, of Bilby Terrace, plead guilty to an amended charge of sexual assault and to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.

This followed earlier not guilty pleas before appearing for trial at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, October 11.

Arkison admitted to uttering various sexual remarks, refusing to leave the pub despite repeated requests, entering the area behind the bar while not permitted to do so and repeatedly approaching the woman while she carried out duties of her employment – placing her in a state of fear and alarm.

He also admitted to seizing her by the body, pulling her towards him, and attempting to kiss her, resulting in her injury.

The court heard that at around midnight at the Coach and Horses pub on April 24 the staff member called last orders, with Arkison the only customer left in the pub.

While being told to leave the premises, Arkison uttered various sexual remarks, including how he ‘liked older women’ and telling her she was the type who ‘likes to be dominated’.

While carrying on with her work, Arkison entered the bar area grabbed the woman and attempted to kiss her.

After repeated requests to exit the premises the woman said she would lock him in if he didn’t leave.

The court heard the staff member was left badly shaken by the incident and told the licensee the next day before reporting it to police.

Sheriff Foran heard the incident had been filmed on the pub's CCTV system and that police found fingertip bruising over the woman’s arms.

His defence solicitor said Arkison was very drunk at the time of the incident and aware of the repurcussions he faced.

Bail was continued by Sheriff Foran, with sentence deferred for Criminal Justice Social Work Reports.

Arkison was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and told to return to the court next month.
