Scottish Water is advising customers in some parts of North Ayrshire that they might experience discoloured water following an issue with a valve on our water mains network.

They have been contacted by small numbers of customers in parts of Kilwinning, Dalry, Saltcoats, Ardrossan, Largs, and Kilbirnie, about brown-coloured water coming from their taps.

Scottish Water engineers investigated the issue and established that a faulty valve on their network in the Dalry area caused the discolouration by natural sediment which lies in the water mains.

Such discolouration often occurs after there has been some kind of disruption to the water main.

Scottish Water has resolved the issue with the valve and is carrying out some localised flushing to help remove the discolouration from the network. We appreciate that the discoloured water does not look pleasant and can be concerning for customers.

They are monitoring the water and advising affected customers to let their cold water tap run at half pressure until the water runs clear again.

As this is affecting a wide area, when normal water supplies are restored could depend where affected properties are located on the network.

Scottish Water thank affected customers for their patience and co-operation and apologise for any inconvenience.
