Police Officers are keen to talk to two people who were in the area when an elderly women was robbed in Irvine on Wednesday.

At around 4.50pm on Wednesday, a 95 year-old women was walking along New Street, at the rear of the multi-story car park at the Rivergate Shopping Centre, when she was approached from behind by a man who snatched her handbag.

He then made off towards Marks and Spencers at the retail park, leaving the woman uninjured, but shaken.

Police have been gathering CCTV footage and want to talk to two people seen walking from Marks and Spencers at the retail park towards New Street at the time of the incident who may have vital information to help with their enquiries.

The suspect is described as between 20-30 years of age and was wearing a grey hooded top at the time of the incident.

Detective Inspector Mick Carr, of Saltcoats Police Station, said: “This was a callous attack on an elderly woman who has understandably been left traumatised. She was simply making her way home after visiting some friends.

“We now know from CCTV footage that there may have been witnesses to this attack and appeal for anyone who may have seen something to come forward or contact us.”
