Detectives are appealing for information following a bogus caller incident in Kilwinning.

A man attended at a house in Irvine Road, Kilwinning offering to carry out gardening work at around 4pm on Wednesday, December 20.

The man tricked his way into the 88-year-old lady’s home and stole a two figure sum of cash.

She was not injured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

The man is described as white, with a local accent, he is around 5ft 8 inches in height and was wearing dark clothing.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are appealing to members of the public for information.

Detective Inspector Mick Carr said: “This man’s actions are contemptible, to target an elderly woman in her home is shameful. I would appeal to local residents in the area to contact us if they think they saw this man hanging around and can perhaps provide us with additional information.

"Also, be on the lookout for anyone who may be acting a little odd or suspicious. We will be checking CCTV images and hope to obtain further detail on the suspect which we hope will lead us to tracing him.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Saltcoats Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 2457 of 20 December 2017.

Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
