A MAN, who drove almost five times the limit to collect his partner has been slapped with a hefty fine.
Tony Denholm, formally of James Brown Avenue, Ayr admitted driving along Whitletts Road after drinking so much alcohol which exceeded the prescribed limit.
The incident happened on September last year. The 34-year-old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.
Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Gregor Forbes said: “Mr Denholm had been drinking that evening in Ayr.
“He was not expecting to drive but he received a call from his partner who had got into difficulty at Ayr Town Centre.
“He foolishly went to pick her up but was stopped not that far away from his home address. It is a serious matter.”
Addressing the dock, Sheriff Desmond Leslie said: “Mr Denholm you were almost five times the legal limit for driving.
“This is a serious matter. You will be disqualified and will pay a fine of £1000.”
Denholm will pay £100 per month towards his £1000 fine and has been disqualified for two years. His licence has been endorsed.
