SEVERE weather means that there are currently travel disruptions in North Ayrshire, with more expected throughout the day.

Scotrail have confirmed that trains between Ardrossan and Glasgow Central and Ayr and Glasgow Central are currently undergoing lengthy delays.

Scotrail has also said that people should avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.

North Ayrshire Council confirmed that all schools are open other than in the Garnock Valley - with pupils from the Garnock Valley who attend St Matthew's Academy asked not to travel.

Roads across North Ayrshire are experiencing heavy snowfall and drivers are asked to take extra care whilst travelling.

Due to severe weather all day centres for older people will be closed today. Outreach visits will be undertaken by staff.
