A SALTCOATS woman has avoided jail after uttering religiously offensive remarks and attempting to bite and kick police officers.
Jaqueline Cuthel, of Ivanhoe Drive, Saltcoats, was handed a Restriction of Liberty Order for the offences when she appeared for sentencing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday last week.
Fifty-year-old Cuthel had behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by acting aggressively, shouting, swearing and uttering offensive comments – with the offence aggravated by religious prejudice.
This took place at both Ardrossan’s Glasgow Street and later at Saltcoats Police Office on Tuesday, October 24 last year.
Later while at Saltcoat’s Police Station, Cuthel then assaulted a police constable by attempting to kick her on the body. She also assaulted a male police constable by attempting to bite him on the body.
Cuthel received a Community Payback Order for 12 months with supervision as an alternative to custody.
She also received a Restriction of Liberty Order for nine weeks and will have to remain at her address from the hours of 7pm until 7am.
