A drunk carer who neglected a disabled woman and allowed her to fall from her wheelchair is to be sentenced later this month.

Yvonne Clark, of Benbain Place, Irvine, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pleaded guilty to two charges.

Clark was providing care or treatment or purporting to provide care or treatment to a patient who has learning difficulties and is disabled.

On January 6 of this year at an address in Saltcoats, 54-year-old Clark ill-treated or wilfully neglected the woman.

The court heard that while she allowed herself to be intoxicated to the extent that she was unable to care for herself or the patient.

It was also revealed that she allowed the patient to fall from her wheelchair and then left her sitting on the driveway.

Clark repeatedly struck the woman’s wheelchair while she was sitting in it, failed to treat or obtain treatment for injuries to the woman, and failed to keep her clean and tidy.

She also behaved in a threatening or abusive manner at the same address on the same date.

Clark shouted and swore at police officers in the presence of the patient and placed her in a state of distress.

Sheriff Craig Harris adjourned the case for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and a Restriction of Liberty Assessment until later in March.

He told Clark: “The court will decide at that point what sentence is to be imposed. “You’re currently on bail, so that continues.”
