A MAN who produced £2,500 of cannabis at his home has been tagged.

Mark Meechan of Hareshaw Crescent, Muirkirk admitted producing the class B drug in August last year.

The 34-year-old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute Fiscal, Cath Whyte, said: “On August 11, police officers executed a search warrant at the property. They found 180g of cannabis worth £1000 and four plants worth £1500.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Euan Cameron, said: “Mr Meechan pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

“The position is that he is man who suffers from chronic pain. The reason for using cannabis is for that pain. He has also suffered from anxiety and PTSD.

“This is a serious crime. I would invite your Ladyship to consider a Community Payback Order under supervision.”

Addressing the dock, Sheriff Leslie, said: “Mr Meechan you will be required to access the appropriate medical assistance. If you continue to self medicate you will find yourself in jail.

Meechan has been placed on a CPO under supervision and will be on a curfew for three months.
