AN 81-year-old has admitted to being five times over the drink driving limit.
Robert Corbett, of Mount Avenue Symington, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at his home address on November 1, 2017.
He appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.
Depute Fiscal, Jason Bell, explained: “At around 12.30pm, police officers received information of a drink driver.
“The police attended and got the driver to stop – there noted that there was a strong smell of alcohol.
“The accused was taken to Saltcoats Police Station where he was cautioned and charged.”
Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Jill Malloy, said: “My client had a long-standing drink problem.
“He understands the danger of his alcohol problem.
“He is now in a much better shape.”
Sheriff Montgomery issued a £600 fine and banned Corbett from driving for four years.
