A MAN has admitted to crashing his car whilst he was so drunk and high he was unable to speak or stand properly.
Jack Campbell crashed his car on Kilmarnock Road in Springside on the afternoon of January 2 this year after driving whilst so unfit through drink and drugs that he was “slurring his words and unsteady on his feet”.
Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard the 22-year-old, from Glasgow, was involved in a road traffic collision at 2pm and when police attended found him to be unfit to drive.
The Fiscal told the court: “It was at around 2pm in the afternoon when the accused was involved in an RTA on Kilmarnock Road in Springside. Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.
Police attended and on speaking with the accused could see he was slurring his speech and unsteady on his feet.
“The accused was checked over by paramedics and a road side breath test was carried out.
As a result he was arrested and taken to Saltcoats Police Office.” However Campbell’s defence solicitor told the court her client was remorseful over his behaviour and had been having problems with drugs and alcohol.
She said: “He has shown remorse for his conduct and pled guilty at the first opportunity. “He is 22-years-old and lives with his mum and dad and is employed by Scottish Power.
“He has had some problems with drugs and alcohol. “It started out as a bit of fun at the weekend, but it eventually started to interfere with his normal life.
“Since the incident, with the full support of his parents he has been attending CA (Cocaine Anonymous) meetings and has not taken drugs since this incident.”
Sheriff Michael Hanlon disqualified Cambell from driving for 12 months and fined £400.
