AN event to ‘spread the love’ is taking place in Kilwinning as part of a new phenomenon currently sweeping the UK.

Love on the Rocks Scotland, part of the wider Love on the Rocks UK, is celebrating its first birthday.

To mark the occasion, local group Ayrshire Rocks is holding a special ‘Rock Drop’ at the weekend.

The idea behind the movement is to paint a rock, write a message on the back, take a picture of where you are hiding it and post it to your local Love on the Rocks Facebook page.

Whoever finds the rock might wish to keep it or hide it elsewhere for someone else to find.

Dana Milligan, who lives in Kilwinning but is originally from Maybole, is organising the local event.

She said that there are over 500 adults and children in the local area who have been involved in the phenomenon so far.

Dana said: “You don’t know how a wee rock can make such a difference, like if it’s found by someone who’s maybe having a bad day.

“It’s good to get everybody involved, it’s for all ages. It’s good fun and it’s getting all the kids outside, rather than them sitting in on their computers.

“My wee boy loves it. We’ll take about four or five with us on the way to school and he’ll feel so happy when he sees them on the Facebook page after people have found them.

“One of our rocks ended up in Fort William. Somebody found it and they were going away walking so they took it with them and left it up there.

“I’m not from Kilwinning, I’ve lived here about two years, so for me it’s a good way to meet new people around the area. It’s really taken off. It’s all across Ayrshire.”

The theme for Love on the Rocks Scotland’s first anniversary is ‘snail trail’.

Just paint a rock in the theme and bring it along to the Rock Drop at Whitehurst Primary School on Saturday, March 24 at 11am.

The event is free and everyone of all ages is welcome.
