A WOMAN seized hold of her teenage daughter and struck her on the head with her fist.

The woman, from Bellsbank, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting her 14-year-old daughter at their home in August last year.

The 35-year-old appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

The court heard how the girl had been out cycling with her friends.

The depute Procurator Fiscal said: “The girl had gone out with her friends on her bike and was instructed to return home by 9pm but came home at 10pm. She attended with her friends who remained outside.

“At this time, the accused was inside with her partner. The accused told her daughter she was not allowed back outside. The woman shouted ‘get in her right now’.

“The girl shouted to her friends that she would be two minutes.

An argument broke out between mother and daughter. The daughter went to the window to open the curtain to tell her friends she was not allowed back out.

“The accused pulled her from the window. As the argument continued she swung her right hand to her face, hitting her with her ring. At this point the girl shouted ‘you’re a psycho’. She ran to her boyfriend’s home. Her boyfriend's mother saw she was hurt and took her to A&E. The girl received stitches.”

Speaking on the mum’s behalf, defence solicitor, John Gallagher said: “My client had been having difficulties with her daughter in terms of proposing boundaries with her.

“She did try to provide her with a curfew but she told her friends she would go back out with them.

The mother locked the door to try and stop her from going back out which inflamed the situation.

Her daughter tried to climb out of a window. My client accepts she lashed out.”

The woman has been placed on a community payback order for 12 months and will complete 120 hours unpaid work.
