A MAN who picked a fight in a Saltcoats street while he was on bail is to be sentenced next month.

James Lindsay, of Parkend Road in Saltcoats, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pleaded guilty to one charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

The court heard that at around 8.20pm on February 11, CCTV captured 31-year-old Lindsay and a friend leaving the Albion Bar in Saltcoats. It picked up Lindsay challenging an unknown male to a fight.

The unknown man made off, but the CCTV continued to track Lindsay’s movements. He carried on acting in an aggressive manner, and police were contacted.

The camera then followed Lindsay in a taxi to Stevenston. Officers were able to trace him to outside a pub in the town, where he was noted to be acting aggressively. He was arrested and taken to Saltcoats Police Office.

Defence solicitor Brian Holliman pointed out that his client was currently subject to a Community Payback Order, which had been imposed on him in October.

Sheriff Michael Hanlon deferred sentence for reports and granted Lindsay bail but placed a curfew on him.

The sheriff told Lindsay: “I’m going to impose a special condition involving a curfew. “I’m going to adjourn for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and a Restriction of Liberty Assessment.

“You will be released on bail subject to standard conditions, also a special condition that you remain in your home address between the hours of 7pm and 7am.”
