A SECURITY guard who was caught red-handed with a bag of drugs kept a stun gun in his bedroom, a court was told.

Paul Clugston, 27, from Saltcoats, was found with a bag of drugs in the footwell of his green Ford Fiesta when police swooped in Hill Street, Kilmarnock, at 1pm on April 8, last year.

His co-accused Charles Munn, 26, also from Saltcoats, was arrested after his DNA was found on the inside of one of the plastic bags containing cocaine in the car footwell.

The High Court in Glasgow was told the two accused were caught after police received a tip-off that a drugs handover was taking place.

Police found cocaine and cannabis resin with a total potential street value of £12,850 in the bag in the footwell.

A search of Clugston's home in  Cunninghame Crescent uncovered cocaine, cannabis resin and herbal cannabis worth a £28,198, along with the taser.

The court was told that the stun gun was in working order and could administer a shock sufficient to cause temporary incapacitation.

The stun gun is a prohibited weapon and can only be possessed legally by the written authority of the Secretary of State or Scottish Ministers.

Both men were jailed today (Thursday, April 5) by judge Lord Mulholland.

Clugston was imprisoned for three years and nine months, and Munn, of Glebe Street, was jailed for three years.

The court heard that Clugston was offered £300 to store the drugs. He claimed he was given the stun gun by someone and forgot all about it.
