AN IRVINE man who poked his thumbs in another man’s eyes during a violent bar brawl could be facing jail.

Barry Gibson admitted to wreaking havoc in an Irvine pub on March 18 this year after viciously assaulting another man and smashing a door in.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard the-36-year-old pled guilty to throwing a chair at the man, striking him on the body, before grabbing him by the throat and pushing his thumbs into his eye sockets.

Gibson also brandished a baseball bat, uttered threats and behaved in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm in Irvine Water Sports Club in Harbour Street.

Gibson, also of Harbour Street, also admitted to wilfully or recklessly destroying property belonging to another after he kicked a door and smashed a glass panel.

He pled guilty to all the offences and was bailed while the case was adjourned for reports.

He will return to court for sentencing next month.
